ITALIAN UPSETS IN THE SECOND ROUND

The Gazprom Hungarian Open started with a great surprise on Wednesday, since the second seeded Damir Dzumhur (32th) got defeated 64 61. The Bosnian player opponent was the Lucky Loser Marco Cecchinato, who’s playstyle must be difficult for him, since the Italian beat him in Monte-Carlo as well.

In the next match we were cheering for Piros Zsombor, who played his postponed match against Mikhail Youzhny (100th), their match got suspended at 6:3, 5:3 because of the darkness. It was almost impossible for Zsombor to recover from here. He could not, Youzhny won his one and only service game and made the final score 63 63, so all the Hungarians are now out in singles.

On the centre court only Jan Lennard Struff (61th) delivered the assumed results, he did not stumble against his lower ranked opponent, and took a 64 61 smooth victory against the wild card player Alexander Bublik (143th), celebrating his 28th birthday.

The third seeded Richard Gasquet(29th) couldn’t handle the pressure either, he lost in two sets against Lorenzo Sonego (159th). At the beginning of the year Gasquet beat the Italian at Australian open in 3 sets, but this time Sonego was able to stay calm at crucial moments, so he advanced into the 3rd round. In the quarterfinals last year's finalist, Aljaz Bedene (57th) will be his opponent who beat Matteo Berrettini (104th) in a two-and-a-half-hour match in three sets.

At the end of the day we could finally celebrate a Hungarian succes. Attila Balázs with Márton Fucsovics was against Fabrice Martin/Pruav Raja duo. Although the french/indian double won the first set, the Hungarians turned it to their favor  and tied the score up, so the match got decided in tie break. The Martin/Raja duo took the lead 3:0, but the Hungarians did not give up and fought back, winning the tie break 10:7, so they moved into the next round.

On Thursday we can see the last year’s winner and first seeded Lucas Pouill (14th) in singles, but it is not only him worth seeing, Andreas Seppi (55th) and Denis Shapovalov (43th) will play on the centre court as well.
